- Minneapolis Public Schools continues its efforts to monitor asbestos in District buildings and respond in a cautious and pro-active manner. The Environmental Health & Safety Division performs periodic surveillance and re-inspections of all asbestos-containing materials to ensure that the materials are maintained in a good condition. Whenever asbestos materials are disturbed or response action is required, appropriate precautions, as defined in federal and state regulations, are followed. Our efforts are designed to provide a safe and healthy environment for all students and building occupants. Asbestos management plans for applicable buildings, are available for review by calling 612-668-0307 or emailing Jason.karpe@mpls.k12.mn.us

In accordance with Minnesota Statute 121A.335, the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Education, MPS has implemented its Lead in Water Safety Plan. The Plan includes a program of lead in water testing, lead hazard reduction options and communications.
- MPS performs lead in water testing in school buildings every five years. The testing reports for individual schools are available on the MPS website/departments/environmental health & safety/lead in water. - Minneapolis Public Schools recently adopted regulation 7010 B. The purpose of this regulation is to establish the District plans to conform to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) requirements for radio frequency emissions on District premises. The regulation requires that for each building that has equipment that emits radio frequency, we notify parents that this equipment exists on the school’s premise.
- The intent of this notice is to inform all parents, that there is equipment on site at your child’s school that emits radio frequency emissions. The equipment located on site is in compliance with FCC requirements.
